Oh Hi, ReadaZonian it’s good to have you back. I was wondering if you ever get confused between fiction and non-fiction books? if yes, then this little knowledgeful article is for you.
Before I start, I would like to ask you a question, do you read frequently? In this modern world of electronics, many people have drawn far away from books. They think that after passing out of school/college they will get rid of books (academics).
In my college group, only 3 out of 10 people read books and the rest of people are wasting their precious time scrolling down to facebook or updating WhatsApp statuses.
Once upon a time, I decided to read books. I enjoyed reading and I still love to read but after some time I got stuck between fiction and non-fiction books and their genre. It gets harder for me to choose what to read, then I discovered something important.
Books contain essential knowledge that school/college doesn’t teach us. You can be highly educated person even without going to school/college just by reading a tremendous amount of books. But, It is important to go to school cause if you don’t pass out how will you get your degree? and it can be troublesome to find a job or start a business.
Whether it’s fiction or non-fiction your main objective should be of reading. So, today we’re going to discuss fiction VS non-fiction, and which to read? Stay tuned till the end of the article and let me know if it was helpful or not in the comments below.
Fiction VS Non-Fiction Books
Before discussing the difference between fiction and non-fiction books, you need to understand the nature of them individually.
What is Fiction?
Fiction or you can also say imaginary, meaning books based on someone’s imagination which has no connection to the actual events are known as fictional books.
A fictional author would share his imaginative mind through his books. If you ever read a novel then let me tell you it’s fiction. Fiction is a literary work which can be any one of these: a novel, parable, short story, and stage plays & poetry.
Fiction is all about fantasizing things with the author of a creative mind you can easily get to know the culture and tradition of a place even without studying history. For example, if you want to know how people lived in the 1900s you go and pick a novel of that specific time period, and voila you have the information you want without digging deep into history.
What is Non-Fiction?
Non-fiction is the opposite of fiction, meaning books based on actual events which have no connection to the imagination are known as non-fictional books. Non-fiction is strictly a piece of writing about informative and existing things.
Non-fiction deals with the following:
- Biographies & Auto-biographies
- Philosophy & theory
- Research & history
- Analysis & Opinion
There are countless benefits to reading non-fiction books. It is unfair of quoting ‘fiction is a story and non-fiction are not’ because non-fiction can be merely an opinion or research-based.
Nowadays, many university professors are sharing their research stories through books, and there is a show called TED where many people discuss many fascinating things.
Non-fiction books can give you a piece of highly essential knowledge about how the world is functioning. It may improve your general knowledge (GK) and it exposes the secrets of a few great minds. By reading non-fiction books you will be able to improve yourself intellectually, logically and analytically.
Fiction VS Non-Fiction
Now let’s get to the real debate of this article. Many non-fiction readers would say that reading fiction stories is a waste of time. However, fiction readers consider it superior to non-fiction.
Below are some facts that would change your scenario of choosing between fiction or non-fiction books.
- Fiction vs non-fiction books are like the two eyes of a reader, if you miss one eye you can struggle to read and will stick to the other one permanently.
- The fact is fiction helps you develop imagination and non-fiction helps you acquire lessons from the successful people in the form of biographies.
- Always read both because if you continuously read fiction it will make you dreamy. Similarly, too much non-fiction will make you argumentative.
- Make sure to read 10% of novel + 10% of non-fiction every day. Both should be balanced.
- Never go for any one of these, try to keep a record of reading whether it’s fiction or non-fiction.
I prefer, read as much as you like because being hungry for reading would definitely make you a different person. There are hundreds of thousands of books are publishing every day, I am not saying to read all of them, but don’t waste your time watching Netflix.
